According to the requirements of the power system and the use of environmental conditions for insulators, China's overhead lines need to use AC 10 ~ 1000kV, 70 ~ 530kN and DC ± 500 ~ 1000kV, 160 ~ 530kN suspension porcelain, glass and composite insulators. Substations and converter stations need to use AC 35 ~ 1000kV, 2 ~ 25kN and DC ± 500 ~ ± 1000kV, 2 ~ 25kN indoor and outdoor rod-shaped post insulators, with a structural height of more than 10m and an average diameter of 300~600mm. Substations and converter stations also need to use AC 10 ~ 1000kV and DC ± 500kV ~ ± 1000kV circuit breakers, load switches, isolating switches, grounding switches, transformers and power transformers and other electrical equipment with hollow insulators, with a structural height of more than 10.5m and an average diameter of more than 900mm. As well as the use of standard shapes, aerodynamic or open umbrellas, anti-fog shapes, alternate umbrella shapes, double umbrella and triple umbrella shapes.
