Polymer post insulators are specifically designed to withstand the demands placed on them by extreme weather conditions and weather fluctuations. The polymer post insulator flanges are sharp and narrow, and their shape and creepage distance are best suited to address contamination issues. Even strong arcs cannot damage cast resin polymer post insulators. Surface scars caused by flashover can be easily repaired by smoothing and cleaning the markings and rubbing a thin layer of silicone paste on the surface. This treatment will not reduce the flashover strength of the insulator. Cast resin polymer pillar insulators also have high chemical resistance.
Polymer pillar insulators can be used in areas where the atmosphere contains high levels of corrosive gases such as sulfuric acid and nitrogen-containing compounds. Indoor polymer pillar insulators can be installed in any selected location. The operating position of outdoor polymeric pillar insulators can be varied from vertical to horizontal. Aluminum composite busbar clips are used to secure busbars to polymeric pillar insulators. The size and location of the busbar stack and the type of insulator used determine the type of busbar clamp. The dimensions of the busbars have been calculated so that if the busbar stacks do not exceed the width of the busbars, they will be subjected to greater mechanical strain than the corresponding supporting polymeric pillar insulators.
